Chances are if you spend the evening Feb. 29 with the Coconut Coolouts, Unnatural Helpers and Taco Cat at the Winterland, it may very possibly be the least productive thing you could do with the extra day this leap year, 2008.
But it’s also one the more unique ways to spend a few of the extra 24 hours.
Coconut Coolouts is a seven-piece rock-and-roll band from Seattle with a tropical, surf-rock flavor to both their music and their presence. The band’s bassist, affectionately known as Barnanas, has been known to morph into half-man, half-banana. Amidst the transformation, the lead singer plays a three-piece drum kit in an onstage mosh pit of party-minded madness that has graced live sessions at KEXP and is headed to the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas in March.

Gearing up for a European tour later this spring, Mos Generator is hosting a free show in its hometown. Ocean’s Above, another hometown hard rock band, will be opening.
Since the release of its latest album “Songs for Future Gods” in May 2007, Mos Generator has been ripping across the Northwest. Following this show, it’ll play Hell’s Kitchen in Tacoma March 2, The Comet in Seattle March 8 and the Winterland in Bremerton March 15 before crossing the big pond, kicking off its spring tour April 11 at the Roadburn Festival in Holland.

Utilizing the extra day this year, the Manette Saloon welcomes back the afro-eclectic, solo stringer hailing from Seattle who calls himself Blu Meadows.
“A Huge Hit” The Manette’s calendar proclaims, Blu Meadows is an artist with an aim for opening minds rather than simply entertaining.
His style is nearly indescribable infusing elements of classic rock with reggae, hip-hop, Latin music and more, creating an eclectic concert experience. It’s taken him to stages across the world, most recently a European tour last year.
He’ll have the stage to himself on Leap Day at the Manette.
KGB SUSPECT w/ Suburban Crisis, Mister Bucket and the Dingbats at 6 p.m. at the Artists for Freedom and Unity Hall, 318 N. Callow Ave. in Bremerton. All ages, $5 cover.
Upon realizing that 2008 has one more day on its calendar than 2007, the gurus at Bremerton’s all-ages cooperative the Artists for Freedom and Unity were sure to throw a show.
And to do so, they are bringing in a batch of out-of-towners featuring KGB Suspect and The Dingbats of Seattle and Suburban Crisis and Mister Bucket from Tacoma.
