At its website, the Kitsap Visitors and Convention Bureau (www. visitkitsap.com) lists seven pages full of trails in and around Kitsap — from state parks to preserves, lake fronts and low-tide beach walks.
June 6 marks national trails day.
Local trails associations and citizen groups around the peninsula will be celebrating by cleaning up, and putting to use, the trails in their area.
The Clear Creek Trail Task Force of Central Kitsap will be hosting a Family Service Day at the Clear Creek Trail with a number of work locations, tasks and raffles to suit all ages from 10-2 p.m. Meet at “the barn” the Clear Creek Saq’ad Interpretive Center off of Bucklin Hill to choose your task. The Great Peninsula Conservancy will be hosting a small group removing invasive ivy from their preserve at Apple Tree Cove in Kingston from 9 a.m. to noon. Refreshments provided. RSVP Kate at (360) 373-3500.
The Kitsap Mountaineers will be partnering with Kitsap County’s Stream Team and the Noxious Weed Office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to remove non-native invasive species from an area of Chico Creek which they are hoping will one day be used for salmon viewing.
