What goes on this weekend: Poulsbo gets down a day early, Fathoms of Fun roll on in Port Orchard, plus a traditional Fourth on Fourth Street in Bremerton, a ‘Green’ Old Fourth on Bainbridge and more.

Fathoms of Fun Roll On

PORT ORCHARD

Port Orchard’s Fathoms of Fun concludes this weekend with the town’s Fourth of the July fireworks over Sinclair Inlet.

The Port Orchard waterfront farmers market will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Harrison Avenue near Amy’s on the Bay. Live music kicks off at 11 a.m. with the soulful sounds of local group Solid Rock — a jam band built from the cafe and contemporary Christian center the Solid Rock Cafe.

Later that night, the classic rock band Usual Suspects takes the pavilion stage from 8:30 p.m. until the fireworks go up over the inlet about 10:30 p.m.

Unique in its amount of open public waterfront, downtown Port Orchard has a front row seat to the Sinclair Inlet Show that’s visible from there to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton to the south end of Bainbridge Island.

On the south end of Port Orchard, the community of Manchester also hosts its own waterfront fireworks display.

An Old-Fashioned Fourth

BREMERTON

Downtown Bremerton celebrates an Old-Fashioned Fourth on Fourth Street.

From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. that day, a Fourth Street Market will feature food and crafts and more, in addition to the wealth of local businesses located along that street. The local Aurora Valentinetti Puppet Museum will commission a magician and give puppet-making lessons. The local barbershop singers society, the Kitsap Chordsmen, will perform, as will local stringer Bub Pratt and the B-Cats. A roving photographer will have his camera at the ready to capture those who take the theme to heart, donning old-fashioned attire.

A free ice cream social will be from noon to 3 p.m., along with jump rope, hopscotch and more.

Later, a fireworks show will light the sky over Sinclair Inlet.  

A ‘Green’ Old Fourth 

BAINBRIDGE

Bainbridge will be “celebrating our green isle” at this year’s Grand Old Fourth of July parade as recent Bainbridge Island High School graduate Mark King, 19, leads a special “eco portion” of the Madison Avenue to Winslow Way parade with the electric car he built from scratch.

The mile long parade, arguably the epicenter of the Grand Old Fourth celebration, starts at 1 p.m.

Waterfront Park will host an all-day street fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., along with family-friendly entertainment including performers Guy Sidora and his Big Red Ball (10 a.m.) and Lucy Dickinson (11:30 a.m.) in the morning along gypsy jazz bands Ranger and the Rearrangers (1:30 p.m.) and Pearl Django (3 p.m.) that afternoon.

Putt-putt golf, an old-fashioned carnival, inflatable games, classic car show and a new electric car show, and a vintage-uniformed baseball show and other entertainment will round out the celebration

The Traditional Fourth of July

KINGSTON

Kingston’s annual two-day July 4 celebration opens today with Tiny Town and Kola Kole Park.

Tiny Town begins the fun from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 3 and 4 and features all things kids’ summer fun — from painted tattoos to dunking booths, inflatable slides, slug races and more.

Down the road at Mike Wallace park, at 10 a.m. July 4, a musical festival kicks off Day Two, featuring the Kingston High School Jazz band (10 a.m.), Marcus Dean (11 a.m.), Nathan Pagaard (1:30 p.m.), Good Enough (3:30 p.m.), House of Cards (5 p.m.) Coldnote (6:30 p.m.) and The Blues Counselors (8:30 p.m.).

The annual parade is at noon, while the Blues Counselors play until the fireworks go up over Apple Tree Cove around 10:15 p.m.

Also, new this year, at 2 p.m. each day on the Tiny Town stage — Kingston’s Got Talent.

The Third of July

POULSBO

After nearly being stifled by its organizers in advance of its 20th anniversary, Fireworks on the Fjord is set to go up for Poulsbo’s Independence Day eve celebration — the Third of July.

When organizers first announced the fireworks cancellation earlier this year, the community protested, and eventually the local Viking Fest Corporation took over financial responsibility, vowing the show would go on one way or another.

Booths will open at 5 p.m. The contemporary Navy band “Passage” will play at Kvelstad Pavilion at 8:30 p.m. and fireworks will follow.
