Free show at OC, Trashed Idols up from Hollywood and zombies come out at the Charleston all in Kitsap’s docket of rock this week.
WEDNESDAY
Y.I.A w/ Product of Thought, Madmartigan, Steelscape, Mysterious Chocolate and The Extinct at 6 p.m. May 21 at the Bremer Student Center of OC Bremerton. All ages, free, $2 barbecue precedes the show at 3:30 p.m.
It’s not often that you get six different bands for the price of one, let alone for no charge at all.
But thus is the case for an upcoming show, a second annual event titled “The Young and The Indie” sponsored by the Olympic College student newspaper, The Olympian, at OC Bremerton.
The bill is loaded with local 20-something talent — except for Mysterious Chocolate, they’re from Bellingham. Close enough.
The rock and roll-full lineup is already incredibly diverse anyhow.
Starting with the out-of-towners, Mysterious Chocolate brings a Bloodhound Gang meets Guttermouth rockish punk vibe that’ll make you laugh while you’re banging your head.
Bremerband Steelscape will likely elicit more than a few head-bangers as well with its clean style of progressive thrash metal while Product of Thought, a local, laid-back singer/songwriter, modern-day Bob Dylan type, will feed your brain with his lyrical content.
Then, just as your head starts spinning, two of Bremerton’s finest hardcore bands — Y.I.A and The Extinct — will punch you in the face (figuratively speaking, of course) with both lyrical intellect and straight-ahead screaming punk rock.

SATURDAY
TRASHED IDOLS w/ Neutralboy and Broken Oars at 9:30 p.m. May 24 at Winterland, 1220 Sylvan Way in Bremerton. 21+, $5 cover.
Speaking of punk rock, here’s some Hollywood hardcore — Trashed Idols, arms lined with tattoos, hair spiked into mohawks, armed with fist pumping oi-flavored music carrying influence from bands like Rancid, Social D, Op Ivy and The Clash.
The band kicked off its tour near home last Friday in San Diego. Between then and now they’ve traveled through Arizona and New Mexico up to Colorado, across to Utah and up to Idaho where they’ll play Idaho Falls tonight.
No rest for the wicked.
Tomorrow they’ll play The Zombie Room in Spokane, then Galway Arms in Seattle Friday before coming to Winterland Saturday to share the stage with Bremerton’s own trashed idols Neutralboy and Tacoma’s brazen Broken Oars.

ZOMBIEFEST w/ Saving Arcadia, Y.I.A, Society Says, The Fixt, Hang, Ballroom Bastards, Total Wreck, the Zombats and Vice Effect, starting at 3 p.m. May 25 at the Charleston, 333 Callow Ave. in Bremerton. All ages, bar w/ ID, $8 cover for the living, $6 for zombies.
Bring out your dead. Indeed.
Giving a gruesome nod to Memorial Day weekend, the Charleston Music Venue hosts an all afternoon-into-the-evening festival of music and the undead. As if $2 off the cover charge isn’t enough incentive to dress up like a zombie for the day, there’ll be prizes for best costume and volumes and volumes of rock.
