Kitsap Children’s Musical Theatre (KCMT) will continue its tradition of wowing Kitsap this fall. Two casts will perform “Willy Wonka Jr.” at North Kitsap Auditorium in Poulsbo the last two weekends of October. Director and founder Kerby Criss runs two casts for each show in an effort to give more kids a chance to be on stage. Every kid who auditions makes it in the show. The range of actors includes seasoned teenagers like Myriah Reidel, Derek Coe and Conner Delany, as well as six year olds like Micah Adams and seven-year-old Ian Poffenroth.
Kerby’s long-term goals include preparing kids to carry on her passion for live theatre, so aside from acting, the kids play a major role in choreographing, directing and producing the plays.
Past productions like “Fiddler on the Roof” and “High School Musical” show that KCMT puts on professional Broadway-type shows. Behind the glitz on stage are parents like Janet Sedy who creates costumes for each character. She and other parents are the driving force behind the productions that keep audiences coming back.
KCMT was started in 2000 and Willy Wonka Jr. will be its 16th production. For more information, go to www.KCMT.org.
