The Dragonfly Cinema will host the world movie premiere of the Swedish film “Eldsaga” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7.
The film is 36 minutes long and tickets are $8 each.
Erik Pettersson, a Swedish native, is the film’s director of photography, script writer and editor. The color film was produced in 2008.
“Eldsaga” — which is translated into English means “Tale of Fire” — is a story about the strong bond between siblings, about surviving a dark youth, growing beyond circumstance and the strong force which can lead people to their highest dream.
According to Pettersson, Magnus Warg and his sister, Klara, who is slightly disabled, arrive home one day and find their home burned and their mother missing. After the siblings spent the night in a grocery store, their father — who has been gone for six years — suddenly appears and takes them to live with him in a remote cabin.
“The father is immersed in illicit activity to acquire money to fund his dream and forces his children to help him,” Pettersson said. “Magnus objects and this father gets violent. The siblings have no other choice than to try to escape.
“The movie took 20 weeks to produce and the film crew consisted of only four people, plus the actors.”
Robert Follin, who stars in the movie, is mostly used as a stuntman in movies, but is also a “really good actor,” according to Pettersson.
Pettersson, 31, was born in Västervik, in the southern part of Sweden. He lived in the village of Figeholm until his family moved when he was six years old to a tiny village of Misterhult with about 200 people.
His father was a carpenter and his mother worked at the local pharmacy.
He lived there until he came to the U.S. in September 2012. He married his wife, Elizabeth, the same month.
Pettersson received his bachelor’s degree in media technology with specialization in interactive systems at Blekinge Institute of Technology in Karlshamn.
His mentor was Kjell Grede, a famous Swedish director.
