1 dead, 2 injured in Christmas collision on Viking Way

One person is dead and two others injured following a two-vehicle head-on collision in the 16200 block of Viking Way NW near Poulsbo Christmas Day.

Kitsap County sheriff’s deputies, Poulsbo police and North Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded just after 9 a.m. and found the male driver and lone occupant of one vehicle deceased. Two people in the other vehicle, a male driver and a female passenger, are being treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, a sheriff’s Facebook post states.

An investigation found that the male driver of a 2008 Suzuki was southbound on Viking Way when he entered the northbound lane to pass a vehicle. Evidence shows the driver did not return to the southbound lane once he had passed, per KCSO. He collided head-on with a 2019 Toyota Highlander, traveling in the northbound lane.

The collision closed the roadway for several hours while investigators gathered evidence. They found signs of impairment and speeding as possible causes, KCSO says.
