1 dead, another injured in single-car accident in Bremerton

One person is dead and another seriously injured following a high-speed crash April 12 in Bremerton.

Per a news release from the Bremerton Police Department, an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on 6th Street near Montgomery Avenue at approximately 1:18 a.m. The officer activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not yield.

The officer discontinued the pursuit in accordance with department policy and returned to the location of the initial observation. Shortly after, emergency services were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle collision between Veneta Avenue and Broadway Avenue. When first responders arrived, they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Preliminary findings suggest the driver was ejected during the crash. The driver was transported to a regional trauma center with serious injuries. A second occupant was initially trapped in the vehicle but was pulled from the wreckage by officers and a civilian. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kitsap Interagency Traffic Team responded and is conducting a full investigation into the crash.
