A local jewelry store employee is accused of embezzling more than $30,000 worth of jewelry and selling her take to local pawn shops.

Charli Renee Morrison, 20, a former employee of Rings N’ Things located at 710 Bay St., is charged with first-degree theft and first-degree trafficking in stolen property from several alleged thefts dating back to December.

Morrison faces up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

The owner of Rings N’ Things, Rudy Swensen, declined to coment about the thefts.

According to a Port Orchard Police report, a police detective researching pawn shop records uncovered the crime after noting that Morrison was selling a lot of jewelry to area pawn shops.

The detective brought Swensen a picture of the items sold by Morrison, and determined the jewelry indeed came from Rings N’ Things. According to the police report, Morrison had more than 30 transactions with gold-and-jewelry buyers around Kitsap County.

A post on Morrison’s Facebook page noted that she started work at Rings and Things in August, and described the work as “the best job in the world.”
