For the fourth time in six months, an inmate in the Kitsap County Jail in Port Orchard has been found dead.
The sheriff’s office reported the incident in an online release just after 7 p.m. Dec. 11. The report states that a 48-year-old man was found unresponsive in his cell around 4 p.m. No details about how the inmate was found or if any efforts were made to revive him were given.
The investigation is being handled by Port Orchard police. The county Medical Examiner’s Office identified the inmate as Jerry S. Cadena of Port Orchard. The cause of death was atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease. The manner of death was natural.
The string of inmate deaths began in July with the passing of 46-year-old Rhonda McKelvy of Bremerton, followed by 58-year-old Karl Kanekkeberg of Port Orchard in August. Both died of natural causes, coroner reports say. A third death happened in November with the passing of 43-year-old Dana McGranahan.
