A man lying on the side of the road needed to be rescued from himself on Dec. 9. Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue were called to Olympus Drive at about 6:30 p.m. to assist “a man down,” according to reports. When they arrived on the scene, the man was conscious. Not long after the firefighters arrived, the man collapsed. His alcohol level was .286. He also possessed a 9 mm semi-automatic rifle, according to the report. The man is a convicted felon, the report stated. Felony charges will likely will be forwarded, as well as possible burglary charges for his alleged involvement in the stealing of an X-Box a few blocks away.

Vacated home damaged by fire in Illahee

A fire broke out in the basement of a two-story Illahee home on the 5000 block of Madrona Ave. NE at about 3:45 p.m. Saturday.

The house was recently vacated.

Eight units from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue responded to the fire, with some of the firefighters remaining at the scene until 6:30 p.m. to squelch the fire.

The cause was determined to be combustibles that were too close to a halogen light.
