KINGSTON — The ‘70s clothing fad of hiphuggers and corduroy blazers has been making a comeback lately, but thankfully, the popular pink and turquoise bathroom tile colors from the same era have not.
However, if you have a bathroom with that decor or any other scheme that is not to your liking, Custom Bathtub and Tile Reglazers can fix it.
After moving to Kingston last July from Seattle, the family business, owned and run by Ron and Vicki Southall and daughter Sandra Bourguet, started serving Kitsap County recently.
Primarily, Ron Southall and Sandra Bourguet strip away color and reglaze existing porcelain and fiberglass fixtures in bathrooms or they reglaze white bathrooms, giving them a fresher look.
The rapid process involves removing the existing caulk, grout and color, sanding the surface and repairing any chips or grouting. The surface is then sprayed over with a primer coat followed by eight coats of polyglass of the preferred color. It is then “baked†with a high-power quartz infrared unit to seal in the color.
The work is completed within just a few hours and the tub or sink is ready for use within 24 hours, Vicki Southall said.
Also, when doing an entire tub and wall project, Ron Southall will fill in the gap where the tub and walls meet with an adhesive caulk and sprays paint over it so clients never have mold and mildew build up in that area again, Vicki Southall said.
“He’s a perfectionist, if I do say so myself,†Vicki Southall said. “He does beautiful work.â€
The family has been restoring bathrooms across the country since 1975, including such facilities in historic hotels in Denver, Colo. Their latest commercial work includes the Westin and Hotel Andra in Seattle. They also work with local contractors and real estate agents and in private homes. They have a five-year guarantee on their workmanship and materials.
Custom Bathtub and Tile Reglazers specializes in restoring claw foot tubs, pedestal sinks, porcelain fixtures and fiberglass, such as shower inserts and tubs. The crew also has recently started selling refurbished antique claw foot tubs that people can have installed in their bathrooms in any available color.
Typically, when a tub is cracked, the cost to replace it can run as high as $3,000, primarily because the framework around the tub has to be taken apart in the process. The work of Custom Bathtub and Tile Reglazers is “a fraction of the cost†of installing a new tub, Vicki Southall said.
“This really is the neatest business,†she said. “Seeing something transform so dramatically so quickly.â€
While the family moved to Kingston last year, it still does jobs all over the Northwest.
“Our quality of work,†Vicki Southall said of what makes them stand out. “You get such a value for your money and I’m guessing the fact that Ron has been doing it for 30 years.â€
The family has been known to get calls from customers who received a less-than-perfect job from other companies and need their bathrooms to be fixed.
“We really, really make an effort to make our customers happy,†Vicki Southall said. “We try and go a step above to help our customer.â€
