A second look at Norwegian Point Park designs

A second public meeting to get input on a master plan for Hansville’s Norwegian Point Park will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 29 in the Greater Hansville Community Center in Buck Lake Park.

A second public meeting to get input on a master plan for Hansville’s Norwegian Point Park will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 29 in the Greater Hansville Community Center in Buck Lake Park.

Representatives from the Kitsap County Facilities, Parks and Recreation Department will lead the meeting. An initial public meeting in January garnered ideas for park amenities and opinions on whether existing structures on the site should remain. Parking was also discussed as well as whether any of the eight buildings on the four-acre site might be eligible for the National Registry of Historic Places.

The Seattle-based firm, Berger Partnership, is creating the master plan and will be at the April meeting to unveil several design alternatives for the park, incorporating feedback from the January meeting. A cultural resources consultant has been preparing a report of the site, identifying and evaluating its cultural resources. A survey of the park and wetlands delineation was completed.

Residents can submit input to norpoint@co.kitsap.wa.us, an e-mail address set up by the parks department to gather comments and suggestions for the park. Ideas and suggestions will be used by the designers, historic architects, cultural resource experts and county staff to prepare master plan alternatives for the April meeting. Comments submitted are at www.kitsapgov.com/parks/. For information, contact Arvilla Ohlde at (360) 337-5361.
