PORT GAMBLE — At the seventh annual Old Mill Days last weekend, there was a lot of old, a lot of new, and a lot of whimsey.

Carvers created a unique piece during the festival, set to a theme, that was donated to their auction, held Saturday. Half of the procceds from each piece to back to the carver, and half goes toward the organiation to help keep the festival going.

Old Mill Days, this year held Sept. 28-30, celebrates chainsaw carving as an artform, and is the last hurrah of the season to showcase the artists work and skills.

One of the festival organizers and woodcarver extraordinaire Steve Backus of Whidbey Island said he likes this festival, because the people of Kitsap are “genuine in their enthusiam and appreciation.”

“We’re catering to peoples’ needs, not wants,” he said, and chainsaw carving as an artform is in its infancy.
