Annual community breakfast honors victims of 9/11

Join us for our 14th annual Community Breakfast from 7-10 a.m. Sept. 11. There is no charge for the light meal, provided by NKF&R firefighters. Breakfast consists of croissants, bagels, muffins, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese, coffee and juice.

Car-seat checks resume in October: We’re pleased to learn that our dedicated volunteer child-passenger safety technician, Nancy McClellan, is well on the road to recovery from major surgery and will be returning to her schedule of regular car-seat checks.

The checks — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month at the Paul T. Nichol headquarters fire station, 26642 Miller Bay Road NE — will resume on Oct. 10. If you have a more immediate need, call us at 360-297-3619 and we’ll try to find you a resource.

Sept. 11 Community Breakfast: Join us for our 14th annual Community Breakfast from 7-10 a.m. Sept. 11. There is no charge for the light meal, provided by NKF&R firefighters. Breakfast consists of croissants, bagels, muffins, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese, coffee and juice.

We will accept donations to benefit the Kingston Village Green Foundation, to help that group reach its fundraising objectives as construction continues on our community center and library. It’s our way of honoring the memory of those who were lost in the Sept. 11 attacks — by building community and supporting good causes in their names. Please join us.

Burn ban status: As of this writing, the region has had a day of heavy rain. Still, brush fires are breaking out due to lightning strikes, and firefighting resources are thin across the state as even more fires are sparked in Eastern Washington.

It is unlikely that the burn ban will be lifted until significant and sustained rain restores moisture to the area, firefighting resources are no longer stretched and we can be certain that the fire danger will remain lower in fall and winter.

To check on the status of the ban, call 360-297-3619 or go to www.nkfr.org. We promise that both will be updated as soon as there’s any change.
