Annual Halloween celebration at Bremerton Church of Nazarene

BREMERTON Once again, Bremerton Church of the Nazarene is opening its doors and welcoming all sorts of ghosts, ghouls and goblins inside.

The annual Pumpkin Patch Party is free to the public, and all are welcome.

Karina Tuazon, with the church, said the party is for children 12 and under, but the event itself is run by volunteers of all ages.

“The pumpkin patch is headed up by our children’s director,” Tuazon said. “People sign up to volunteer. We try to get the teen group involved in helping, and then the parents.

“Any age, all the generations can help and pitch in in different ways.”

The party is entirely indoors, Tuazon explained, so weather isn’t a factor. She said when people arrive and check in, they’re not only signed up for a free drawing, but they also get their photo taken (families get a free copy printed on site) and game tickets. But first thing’s first: the Trick or Treat Street is where kids can really show off their costumes as they knock on each inside door of the church to get their candy.

At the end of the “street,” families will reach the gymnasium, which will be transformed into a Halloween carnival of games. Food and beverages are also provided.

And as icing on the cake or candy in the bucket the entire event is free of charge.

“Everything is always free, because we just want to minister to the community and show God’s way,” Tuazon said.

“They love it,” she added. “We hear over and over again, ‘Where do we pay?’ ‘How can we pay back?’ ‘Why is this free?’ A lot of people that are new to it, they are always so surprised they don’t have to pay anything.”

Tuazon said the pumpkin patch party is one of three free annual events the Bremerton Church of the Nazarene does for the community. The other two are an “Easter palooza,” on tthe Saturday before Easter, and an Independence Day family picnic.

So from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31, visit the Bremerton Church of the Nazarene at 924 Sheridan Road. And don’t forget to dress in your Halloween costume.

“That’s the fun part,” Tuazon said. “We don’t want to tell people they can’t dress scary. We want people to come as they are, because that’s how God’s love is. We want people to just come and dress however they would normally, anyway. We just welcome everybody.”
