BREMERTON — Strap on your walking shoes and break out your hand-held American flags, because the 68th annual Armed Forces Day Parade marches through Bremerton at 10 a.m. May 21.
There are 153 entries signed up to participate in the parade, and Gena Wales, president of the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce, said anywhere from 25,000 to 40,000 people are expected to spectate.
“There are so many great parade entries this year,” Wales said. “The parade includes branches of the military, police and firefighters, royalties, commercial businesses, car clubs and over 15 marching bands.
“This year — if the weather holds — we will have two EA18 Growlers from VAQ136 Whidbey Island (Whidbey Island Naval Air Station) fly over Fourth Street as the military VIPs lead the parade up Fourth Street.”
This year’s grand marshal of the parade is Admiral Scott Swift, U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander.
“The parade gives the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce and the community the opportunity to thank our Armed Forces for their service,” Wales said. “Businesses and service clubs work together to make the parade a success.”
The parade will start at the corner of Chester Avenue and Sixth Street, heading towards downtown, then will turn right on Park Avenue, left on Fourth Street and left on Pacific Avenue, to end at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Ninth Street.
