Much like the streams of water that gush from its submarine-mast-shaped fountains, Bremerton’s Harborside Fountain Park once again received national accolades.

This time, courtesy of Landscape Architecture, the magazine of the American Society of Landscape Architects, in its June edition.

A photo of the park adorns the magazine’s front cover and the story written by Landscape Architecture contributor Mark Hinshaw encompasses six full inside pages.

Mayor Cary Bozeman said he believes this is the fourth time the park has been featured by a national publication since it opened just more than a year ago.

“There are a lot of other things people could be writing about, but they’re writing about us, so that’s a good thing,” Bozeman said.

The park itself is a testament to the dedicated, hard work of not only the city’s economic development director Gary Sexton, but the parks department and everyone else who was involved in the project, he said.

“Getting this kind of national publicity is something you can’t buy,” Bozeman said. “It speaks to the issue that we’re building a quality infrastructure and quality environment in the Harborside District.”

The park sits adjacent to the Bremerton Transportation Center and has several picnic tables in addition to the five fountains surrounded by shallow wading pools, which are filled with kids of all ages on hot, sunny days.
