Area residents achieve military honors

We've been made aware of the following military honors received by persons with local ties:

Daniel Lindquist

Army Pvt. Daniel C. Lindquist has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo., which included basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT).

During basic military training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons qualification, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army doctrine, history, principles and traditions.

During AIT, the soldier completed the military police specialist course to acquire skills to provide combat area support, conduct battlefield circulation control, area security, prisoner of war operations, civilian internee operations, and law and order operations. The trainee performed as a team member in support of battlefield operations, installation law and order operations and security of Army resources and installations.

Additional training included providing peacetime support to the military community through security of resources, crime prevention programs, and preservation of law and order.

Lindquist is the son of Gretchen Lindquist of Silverdale. He is a 2013 graduate of Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale.

Bryce Gorang

Air Force Airman Bryce D. Gorang graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.Gorang earned distinction as an honor graduate.He is the son of Richard N. and Colleen M. Gorang of Seabeck.He is a 2012 graduate of Klahowya Secondary School in Silverdale.

Karen Kimple

Navy Ensign Karen M. Kimple of Bremerton, recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. and was commissioned to her current rank.Graduation and commissioning is the culmination of a rigorous four year program of intense academic, military and physical training designed to produce combat leaders of character for the Navy and Marine Corps. In the Naval Academy’s Class of 2014, 1068 Midshipmen graduated of which 784 Sailors were commissioned as Navy Ensigns and 265 Marines were commissioned as Marine Corps 2nd Lieutenants.Kimple is a 2001 graduate of Bremerton High School, Bremerton.

 

Rizalina Suriben

Navy Ensign Rizalina S. Suriben, daughter of Cesar and Rowena Suriben of Bremerton, recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. and was commissioned to her current rank.Graduation and commissioning is the culmination of a rigorous four year program of intense academic, military and physical training designed to produce combat leaders of character for the Navy and Marine Corps. Suriben is a 2010 graduate of Olympic High School, Bremerton, Wash.Founded in 1845, the U.S. Naval Academy is a four-year military service academy that prepares midshipmen morally, mentally and physically to be professional officers in the Naval service.
