“POULSBO – Over 30 arts and crafts booths will be dotting the landscape at Poulsbo’s Waterfront Park this weekend as the 20th annual Arts by the Bay officially gets underway. Music and food will augment the well-attended festival which serves as a bridge between Little Norway and the greater artistic community of the Northwest region. According to organizer Val Torrens, the event will pretty much cater to all tastes and offer a terrific opportunity for children to explore their hidden talents. An entire section of the park, she explained, will be set aside specifically for kids to create their own works of art. I’d definitely say we have something for everyone, Torrens said. In addition to solid mediums, art will fill the air as well as various musicians take to the stage at Kvelstad Pavilion. Arts by the Bay runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and will feature music and dancing throughout both days. On Aug. 19, the Liberty Bay Dance Group will get things moving at noon, followed by Linc Nqobizazi: A journey to Africa at 1:20 p.m. Thread Bare acoustic duo takes the stage at 2:45 p.m. with Andy Page’s blues guitar picking up the strings at 3:45 p.m. to close out the Saturday showcase. On Aug. 20, the Country Cloggers will kick things off at 12:15 p.m. with the soaring music of Steve and Kristi Nebel filling the pavilion at 1:30 p.m. Amber Tide comes in 2:45 p.m. followed by the explosive jazz/rock of Puget Phusion at 4 p.m. It’s always just been a very nice, popular event, said Torrens, explaining that artists come from all over the Northwest to attend Arts by the Bay. We’ll have everything from custom hunting and fishing knives to fine art. Local artists will also be a prime attraction at the festival. Janet Navert will be on hand with her fabric accessories, Michelle Cummins will show decorative wood items, Marianne Gabere will have painted wares on display and Patricia Stoneman-Lowe will present hand-crafted jewelry, Torrens said. Also, Jean Damm’s ceramic birds will be taking flight and Betty Bestudo’s marine art will be charting a course as Carol Bueller’s dried florals brighten up the scene. They’re wide-spread throughout the county, Torrens said of the talents who will be at the event. Money raised by Arts by the Bay supports the Cultural Arts Foundation. “
