Several traffic-snarling roadwork projects have come to an end, as several more begin.

The city plans to start three asphalt overlay projects Monday, which originally were scheduled to start Oct. 16.

The overlay projects are scheduled for Sidney Avenue from Tremont Street to South Street, on Sedgwick Road from the traffic light by the Lowe’s store to Sidney, and at the intersection of Sidney and Lippert Drive.

The city pushed back the start date for several reasons, Port Orchard public works director and engineer Mark Dorsey said.

The crews working on the project needed time to complete a different project, and transition to a night schedule for the portion of the project overlaying the asphalt on Sedgwick.

“More importantly, we wanted to give notice on reader boards,” Dorsey said. “They’re going to have to take it down to one lane. Even at night they want to give plenty of notice.”

The other two projects will most likely be completed during the day, Dorsey said.

Similar overlay projects are scheduled to begin in April on Sedgwick from Sidney Road to Glenwood Road and on South Kitsap Boulevard from Tremont to Pottery Avenue.

Dorsey encouraged drivers to avoid the areas affected by the projects.

“There will be some delays,” he said.

Road work has been completed recently on other South Kitsap roads.

State Department of transportation crews completed a two-month hillside stabilization project last week that had caused traffic delays on State Route 3 between Gorst and Bremerton.

Part of Jackson Avenue was closed overnight Thursday to allow Kitsap County work crews to install a sewer line and storm line across the road just north of the Lund Avenue intersection. The work was scheduled to be finished in time for the road to open again this morning.
