Automatic fire alarm saves the day in Keyport

An automatic alarm was credited with reporting a house fire at an unattended Keyport residence Tuesday morning.

Firefighters from Poulsbo Fire Department were summoned to the house on the 16000 block of Virginia Point Road at about 9:20 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire had started in the basement, said Poulsbo Battalion Chief Jim Gillard.

The fire was contained to a room in the basement, and the rest of the two-story house sustained light smoke damage. Gillard said the owners of the house were on vacation. No injuries were reported.
