Bail over $4 million for man in 11 wrecks

Bail was set at $4.065 million for a man charged with seven crimes in Kitsap County Superior Court Dec. 9 after crashing into 11 vehicles.

The 64-year-old Bremerton man was charged with: three counts of second-degree assault (10 years in prison, $20,000 fine maximum each); attempting to elude (5 years, $10,000); DUI and hit and run (1 year, $5,000 each); and hit and run unattended vehicle (90 days, $5,000).

Court records say Bremerton police responded Dec. 7 at 8:25 p.m. to 6th Street and Warren Avenue. Reports said a man was driving into oncoming traffic and intentionally crashing into vehicles. When police arrived the suspect drove straight toward a pedestrian on a sidewalk. She jumped out of the way as the suspect crashed into a fire hydrant.

Police say the suspect actually ran into 11 vehicles and had 16 counts of second-degree assault, along with eluding and DUI.

Bail was set at $500,000 for a 22-year-old Silverdale man charged with third-degree rape and second-degree assault Dec. 13 in Superior Court.

He faces life in prison and $60,000 in fines.

Court records say Bremerton police responded May 8 at 1:08 a.m. to a Marine Drive address in Bremerton. The victim said her boyfriend was out of the country, so she asked her friend, the suspect, if he wanted to hang out. She said he had bothered her before about sex but the relationship was platonic. He had said before it was a waste of time hanging out with her.

But he came over anyway. He kissed her and she continued to say no. He took off her pants and undressed himself. “Why did you lie?” she asked. She said she froze because he was so much bigger than her. She is only 5-foot-3 and 98 pounds, while he is 6-foot, 175 pounds. He forced her to have sex. She said he threw her around and said he “owned her,” which made her feel “absolutely disgusted.” Results from a rape kit provided additional evidence.

A shoe print on an excavator window kicked out by a suspect led to the arrest of a 40-year-old Bremerton man who was in Superior Court Dec. 11 charged with first-degree malicious mischief.

Bail was $50,000. He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

Court records show Kitsap deputies responded Aug. 22 around 10:30 p.m. to a construction site near NW Newberry Hill Road in Silverdale. A suspect on video is seen driving a mini excavator and then a large one, destroying a road and culvert, guardrails, road grader machine, water truck and other equipment.

A fire extinguisher was used to smash water truck windows, and the suspect kicked out the cab window of the excavator from the inside. Employees thought of only one person who briefly worked for them with the knowledge to operate the equipment. The owner recalled the man was disgruntled and bragged about being a convicted felon. A shoe print was found on the kicked out window in the excavator.

On Nov. 8 at around 8 p.m. a similar crime was committed at a construction site at Solid Lane W in Bremerton. A previous employee more than three years before was breaking windows of employees’ cars. He was the ex-boyfriend of one employee. She said they did not leave on bad terms, and she was worried about him driving as he was intoxicated. She also said he had a long history of drug abuse, and he was hired on a work-release program. When arrested he was wearing the shoes that made the print on the excavator window.

A 35-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court Dec. 13 charged with residential burglary after being caught with a red paintball gun.

Bail was $171,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court records show Kitsap deputies responded Dec. 12 at 10:45 a.m. to the 5100 block of Stingle Street NW in Bremerton.

Video footage shows a man with a red paintball gun and white shoes at the address. Hours later the reporting party said he was there again. A short time later the suspect tried to sell the car he had been driving about a block away to another man. When he saw police, the suspect took off, but was tackled by officers.

A 25-year-old Poulsbo man was charged in Superior Court Dec. 9 with second- and fourth-degree assault over speaking Spanish.

Bail was $260,000. He faces 11 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.

Court records show Kitsap deputies responded Dec. 7 at 1:11 a.m. to the 22900 block of Indianola Road NE. The reporting party said a neighbor assaulted one of his workers.

Two employees were drinking in the shop after the workday, playing music and having fun. The neighbor came over and said he didn’t like when they spoke Spanish because he can’t understand them. He pushed one of them down, and he hit his head on a carjack. He also hit his face on a metal I-beam. The suspect left after the other two men held him to calm him down.

A 35-year-old Silverdale man was in Superior Court Dec. 16 charged with second-degree burglary for 10 storage unit thefts.

Bail was $50,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court records show Bremerton police responded Dec. 13 to Tukwila police, who were tracking a suspect who was in the 6400 block of Kitsap Way for a different crime. BPD contacted Public Storage, whose video shows the suspect had been there early that morning and had burglarized six storage lockers. The manager said the suspect had been a renter there until May. Police followed the tracker and arrested the suspect later that day.

Based on previous burglaries, he was arrested for 10 such incidents. The first was May 13 when the suspect drilled through a lock. Another burglary Nov. 7 he cut a barbed-wire fence to gain entry. Another incident Nov. 26 over $4,000 in tools and truck parts were stolen. Another burglary Nov. 27 shows a grinder was used to destroy a lock, and a piece of mail was taken as evidence as the suspect’s shoe print was on it.

A 22-year-old Silverdale man stationed on the USS Nevada was in Superior Court Dec. 9 charged with vehicular assault DUI.

Bail was $100,000. He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

Court records say Port Orchard police responded Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. to a blocking collision at 1000 block of SW Bay Street. Two people were injured in the collision.

The suspect had been at a command event at the Tracyton Movie House. He was there three hours and had two Long Island Iced Teas. He did poorly on field sobriety tests and had blood sample readings of .187 to .190. The legal limit is .08.

A 37-year-old Spanaway man was in Superior Court Dec. 13 charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

Bail was $100,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court records say Bremerton police responded Dec. 12 to the 5000 block of Kitsap Way at 10:54 a.m. A man pulled a 5-inch knife out and asked a woman for a cigarette. He did the same asking a man for money. Both said no.
