Bainbridge Island briefs

Censored film festival

The Bainbridge Island Censored Film Festival will take place Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. at Lynwood Theatre.

Organizer Jim Forsher says in a news release that, “Controversy has been part of the movie-going experience ever since the first films were shown.” He has been collecting censored footage for over four decades and will share films “guaranteed to still upset some audience members.”

Topics include: drugs, sex, music, politics and race—all topics that have forced films and TV shows to face censorship over the years, he said. The film clips will be followed up by a Question and Answer session.

The event is a fundraiser for Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network and USA Film Studies Center. Tickets are $15 each at the Faraway entertainment ticket link.

Day of Preparedness

The Day of Preparedness will take place at Woodward Middle School from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 21.

Puget Sound Energy will explain what to do during power outages; there will be tips on ways to stay connected during a power or Internet outage; learn about portable and solar generators; emergency water-storage options will be explained; learn how to use a fire extinguisher; learn common-sense emergency readiness strategies; and see what you should put in go bags, get-home bags and medical kits.

Giveaways (while they last) will include water pouches and water purification tablets; refurbished fire extinguishers; freeze-dried food; hand-sanitizing wipes; rain ponchos; dental hygiene kits; pocket LED flashlights; and a portable generator will be raffled off.

Night work

Lighting, signage, tree trimming and paving are taking place on the roundabout sites on Bainbridge Island on Highway 305.

The state Department of Transportation is doing the work between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Flaggers are directing traffic at Adas Will, Agatewood and West Port Madison with minor delays expected as traffic alternates one way so the work can be done.

Beach cleanup

The 9th Annual Bainbridge Island Beach Cleanup will take place Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers are needed to clean BI’s 53 miles of shoreline. Sign up at www.signupgenius.com

Tourism funds

The city of Bainbridge Island is seeking proposals for tourism projects and activities for 2025 that would receive money from the city’s Civic Improvement Fund.

Proposals must deal with tourism marketing and operations for special events and festivals. $400,000 is budgeted in the fund.

Also, the deadline is that same day as the city seeks proposals for cultural projects.

Injury accident

A 67-year-old Bremerton woman was injured when the car she was a passenger in was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Bainbridge Island man Aug. 31.

The 77-year-old Bremerton man who was driving the car that was hit was stopped at a red light on Highway 303 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds.

Charges are pending an investigation. A State Patrol news release says drugs or alcohol may have been a factor.
