CHENEY — Sara Barrett was awarded a Dolores Gibler Scholarship for $4,000 for the 2013-14 academic year at Eastern Washington University.

Barrett is the daughter of Joe and Melissa Barrett of Poulsbo. She graduated from North Kitsap High School in 2008. She is a teaching assistant and helps teach English 170 and will teach English 101 during the 2013-14 year.

In high school, she was a co-founder of the school newspaper and was voted outstanding senior. She is a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in English literature.

She looks forward to teaching in a middle school or high school English classroom after her studies.
