POULSBO — Art will be the order of business at Waterfront Park this weekend as Cultural Arts Foundation Northwest hosts the 23rd annual Arts by the Bay.
Between 4,000 and 7,000 people usually flock to the shores of Liberty Bay for the annual showcase of local artists and entertainers. The event began 1980 and CAFN took over the organization in 1985.
A juried arts and crafts show featuring about 40 artists from North Kitsap and beyond is the main draw of the event.
Organizer Greg Enright said one of the more exciting parts about this year’s event is that about 40 percent of the booths are from new vendors. Booths will include art from wood carvings and pottery to watercolors and metal. One of this year’s newest artists is Silverdale’s Alexandre Federovski, whose hand-blown glass birds are sure to captivate art lovers.
“The artists just love the event,” Enright commented. “They like the people putting it on, which is great, and the location and the people who show up.”
Local musicians will also provide live entertainment throughout both days. The entertainment line-up for Arts By the Bay 2003 is:
•10-10:30 a.m. Saturday — South Kitsap Dance Company
•11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday — Deadwood Revival, (Funky Folk Jam Trio)
•2:30-5 p.m. Saturday — Ecstasy In Numbers, (Fusion Jazz)
•11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday — Dan Page Solo, (Blues and Rock)
•1-2 p.m. Sunday — Morris and Pike, (Jazz)
•2:30-5 p.m. Sunday — Jeff Tassin & Friends
There will also be a free children’s
creative interactive art experience area provided by Western Washington University Human Services students.
Arts By The Bay is CAFN’s longest running and largest event the non-profit puts on each year. All of the money raised will go back to CAFN to support the rest of its programming this year, which will include an artist lecture series in October, the Arts In the Woods studio tour in November and event the organization’s community newsletter.
Enright said its other events, too, are growing year by year. Last year was the first Arts in the Woods and Enright said two more artists have already signed up to add their studios to the tour.
