SUQUAMISH — Suquamish Elementary School received reports of a bear sighting on Geneva Street in Suquamish at about 2:50 p.m. Sept. 9.
Students who were outside at recess at the time were brought back to their classrooms.
Suquamish Police and the Department of Fish and Wildlife advised the school that it was safe to release the students as usual at the end of the day.
Students who walk home were advised to walk in pairs and not feed wildlife or approach the bear if they should see it.
“This time of year, bears are preparing themselves for winter,” Suquamish Elementary School Principal Gwen Lyon said. “Families that are walking in Suquamish should stay alert and follow the same guidelines as above.”
