Multiple charges were filed Feb. 20 in Kitsap County District Court against a Belfair woman accused of stealing mail, identity theft and forgery.
Kaelin Cara Usey, 26, has been charged with two counts of second-degree identity theft, two counts of forgery and one count of second-degree possession of stolen property.
She was arrested Feb. 19, by Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies as she was leaving the Kitsap County Courthouse on an unrelated matter. Usey was booked into the Kitsap County Jail and bail was set at $275,000.
According to charging papers, sheriff’s deputies, along with U.S. Secret Service agents served a search warrant on Dec. 11, at a Port Orchard residence. The search warrant was for methamphetamine and forgery.
Usey was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on Dec. 10, after she tried to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at a Port Orchard fast-food restaurant. During a search of Usey, deputies found a driver’s license belonging to a woman and a driver’s instructional permit in another woman’s name, stated court records.
In July, one of the victims reported to deputies that the suspect stole her identification and was committing crimes using her name. Usey apparently stole a check from a man and used the woman’s ID to attempt to cash the check at a Money Tree in Silverdale. The man turned over a box belonging to Usey, which contained ID cards, personal documents, mail, debit and credit cards belonging to more than 50 victims. She left them behind when she left the Port Orchard residence, court documents stated.
The suspect used a fraudulent name to rent a storage unit and stole rental property from a local business after she opened an account.
A woman reported her wallet was stolen in October when her vehicle was broken into. In January, she reported to the Port Orchard Police Department that an account was opened in her name at a Staples store.
When Usey was arrested, officers found several IDs of multiple victims, a stolen check and several credit cards in other victims’ names.
A Bremerton woman reported to police that she was the victim of a burglary and ID theft, stated court papers.
The charging papers included reports from several other victims.
