A Bainbridge Island woman who just turned 100 is seeking help from the community after having a leg amputated.
Jean Leonie Calliet Alloin Hoffman developed a blood clot around Dec. 19, 2024, which turned to gangrene, said her son and caregiver Louis Charles Hoffman Alloin.
After turning 100 Jan. 6, 2025, she was taken Jan. 8 by emergency wheelchair transport on the ferry to the University of Washington Medical Center emergency department in Seattle in an attempt to save her leg. After that failed, she was taken to the operating room for emergency amputation.
She has been in the intensive care unit at Montlake Tower since then, pending transfer to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for prosthetic therapy.
Her son has established a GoFundMe account on her behalf.
