Sparkling Mardi-Gras, pink lace and other decorated bras were sold to the highest bidder at MoonDogs, Too to benefit a local charity event.

More than 55 people attended the MoonDogs, Too Bling-a-Bra auction March 29. The auction of decorated bras raised $650 dollars for the MoonDogs, Too Relay for Life team, running in the South Kitsap Relay for Life event June 1 and 2.

Darryl Baldwin, the owner of MoonDogs, Too, said a candy shop bra made entirely out of candy was the biggest money maker, auctioning off for $80. A Seahawks Beast-Mode bra and a punk rock style bra also raised more than $50.

Baldwin said the Bling-a-bra auction was a unique and popular way to raise money that will go to support the American Cancer Society.

“I think it was a huge event,” Baldwin said. “Everybody enjoyed it.”

Rudy Swensen, the owner of Port Orchard’s Rings & Things, was all smiles after placing the high bid on a red and black bra. He called the Bling-a-Bra auction a fun, neighborhood event. He said he liked the idea of spending money for a charitable cause, and also receiving an item in return.

“Man, I like the colors,” he said. “It’s like something out of the 1920’s.”

Participants of South Kitsap’s 14th annual Relay of Life event have already raised $21,956 for the American Cancer Society. The 24-hour, team-based relay event taking place at South Kitsap High School has 338 participants and 59 teams signed up so far.

The Bling-a-Bra auction was one of many events MoonDogs,Too is putting on to raise money for this summer’s event. A raffle for front row seats to this summer’s Fathoms O’ Fun parade and a chili cook-off scheduled for May 12 are also in the works.
