Bomb scare delays ferries

Nothing found in tool box that looked suspicious, but ferries were delayed for hours

A suspicious tool box led to the closure of the Bremerton Transportation Center and ferry terminal on Monday afternoon.

The 1:45 p.m. sailing from Bremerton and the 1:30 p.m. sailing from Seattle were delayed as a result.

Bremerton Police Chief Steve Strachan said the suspicious tool box was found underneath the staircase leading from the ferry terminal to the boardwalk, between the patio at Anthony’s Restaurant and the eastern edge of the terminal building.

A Washington State Patrol bomb squad responded and took several x-rays of the tool box before giving the all clear. Nonetheless, evening commuters from Seattle and Bremerton faced ongoing delays as the ferry service got back on schedul
