A rather unusual Eagle Scout ceremony was held by Boy Scout Troop 1539 of Silverdale on Nov. 24.

Usually, one or two scouts are honored at the same time for achieving Eagle Scout designation. But this ceremony honored 14 Scouts for achieving the Eagle Scout.

Bremerton Mayor Patty Lent gave each scout a “Key to the City” during the ceremony at the Kitsap Golf and Country Club where more than 300 people attended.

Each Scout also received a personally hand-carved Eagle, made by Bill Rehder, 80, of Silverdale, who earned his scout wood-carving badge more than 60 years ago. Each eagle takes more than 25 hours to make, said Tony Witek, of the troop’s leadership.

Eagle Scout projects included repairing roofs and curbs at VFW halls, rebuilding trails and picnic tables and helping with trenching projects at a local food bank.
