There’s been a lot of activity at Town Center where the new Buxton Center is taking shape.
“We’re in the last phases of construction,” said Matt Longmire, the communication and development coordinator for the Bainbridge Performing Arts Center near City Hall.
Things are coming together just in time for the grand opening Sept. 30, he added.
All the seats have been installed, technical systems are being installed and most areas of the building are receiving the finishing touches. The floors will be installed in coming weeks, and many areas of the building have been completed.
Longmire said the last of the concrete has been poured, and the landscaping around the building is being planted to complete outdoor aesthetics.
Once construction activities are completed in August, BPA staff will begin moving back into the newly remodeled facility to prepare for the upcoming 67th season of performances.
BPA will kick off the inaugural season of new shows with The Edge Improv Oct. 7, followed by a week of the Broadway musical “The Prom,” which opens Oct. 13 and is directed by Joanna Hardie with musical direction by Brandon Peck.
The free public grand opening will include an open house and a concert of African music performed by the Anzanga Marimba Ensemble.
