A branch snapped in the woods, which helped deputies catch a 29-year-old Lakebay man who robbed a Fred Meyer.
Bail was set at $200,000 for the man charged with second-degree robbery who was in Kitsap County Superior Court July 1.
He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Court records show Kitsap deputies responded June 30 at 10:50 p.m. to the 5000 block of State Highway 303 in Bremerton. It was a robbery in progress at the Fred Meyer. Police searched nearby woods and heard a branch snap. A K9 deputy told the suspect to raise his hands, but he jumped the fence into a Public Storage facility. The fence was at least 6 feet high and had barbed wire at the top. Soon after a sergeant ended up fighting with the suspect.
The suspect was taken back to the store and identified. He had been there for about an hour and tried to steal $2,000 worth of items. While he stole mostly clothes he came back later and stole a cart full of various items, assaulting an employee in the process.
Assault with scissors
A 45-year-old man was in Superior Court July 1 charged with assault with scissors.
He faces 10 years in prison and a $10,00o fine. Bail was $50,000.
Court records say Bremerton police responded to the 800 block of 6th Street in Bremerton June 28 at 8:34 p.m. The victim said a man chased him and tried to stab him with a pair of scissors at the Salvation Army. Video supported the information.
The suspect escaped on a ferry, but was picked up when it arrived in Seattle.
2 stop suspect
A 23-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court July 1 charged with second-degree assault thanks to efforts of two Salvation Army employees.
Bail was $60,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Court records show Port Orchard police responded to the 1800 block of Sedgwick Road June 28 at 1:30 p.m. Police arrived to find two employees holding down a suspect. The victim said he went into the store and was hit in the head from behind. He tried to run away but fell, and the suspect began hitting him while he was curled up on the ground.
The two employees were able to get the suspect under control. Videos supported what was said.
3rd-degree rape
A 35-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court July 1 charged with third-degree rape.
He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Court papers say Bremerton police responded to the 35o0 block of Marion Avenue June 28 at 7:12 p.m.
A SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Exam) nurse at St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale made the report. The pregnant victim said she was at the suspect’s house for family reasons, and he asked her for sex. They have had a relationship off and on for years. She said no but later he forced her to have sex with him under a blanket as children played nearby. One of the children even told him to stop because she said no. They then went upstairs, and he raped her two more times.
Police later found out the suspect had a video camera in his house. After getting a warrant, police heard a conversation that day through a baby monitor on one of the video clips. It verified she did not want to have sex. The suspect said the victim made up the rape because she has a new boyfriend.
Brick used in burglary
A 28-year-old Bremerton woman was in Superior Court July 3 arrested on a warrant from a residential burglary in February.
She faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Court records show Kitsap deputies responded Feb. 12 at 11:08 p.m. to the 2100 block of Rocky Point Road NW. The call said a woman had broken into a home and was being physically restrained as she had tried to assault another woman.
The victim said he arrived home from work and his girlfriend was intoxicated and yelling at him. He walked to his brother’s place nearby. The girlfriend called there and was told the victim would stay with them until she sobered up.
The girlfriend went there and was told she was not welcome. She threw a brick at the door, opening it. She then charged at the brother’s girlfriend, but he got in the way. She punched the brother a few times in the head.
Hatchet in vehicle
A 53-year-old Poulsbo man was in Superior Court July 1 charged with kidnapping and harassment.
He faces 11 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.
Court records say Kitsap deputies responded to the 3700 block of W. E. St. in Bremerton at 2:38 a.m. June 29. The victim said her ex-boyfriend had taken her 2-year-old and 8-year-old sons. She said he had been sitting at the end of a street constantly since she broke up with him six months ago. He had threatened to take the kids and kill her if she called police.
The suspect took a boy from an RV when he was sleeping and claimed they were going to Poulsbo while he visited his daughter. When arrested he had a hatchet in the vehicle.

A 30-year-old Seattle man and a 35-year-old Seattle man were in Superior Court July 8, both charged with second-degree burglary.
Bail was $100,000 each. Each face 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Courts papers say Kitsap deputies July 6 responded at 4:28 a.m. to Secret Gardens in the 400 block of Ida Street W. A white pickup pulled up, and three people entered the business. An employee said a camera footage alarm went off on his phone when they used a crow bar to enter. One suspect had distinct shoes: white with a black tongue in the shape of a V. The business owner said the suspects looked the same as when he was burglarized Feb. 1, 2023.
After obtaining the truck’s license plate number, it was located and a pursuit took place, but it was called off. Pierce County later stopped the truck. Two were caught and a K9 was searching for the third, who was not found. The suspects matched the videos, including the shoes.
Spray paint gave it away
A 20-year-old Olalla man was in Superior Court July 8 charged with second-degree burglary after using a crowbar and spray paint in committing the crime.
He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Bail was $50,000.
Court records say Kitsap deputies responded to the 300 block of NW Grandstand Street in Silverdale July 7 at 12:41 a.m. There were sounds of breaking glass at a construction site. A man with a flashlight had a can of red spray paint and a crowbar. He said he found the paint and carries a crowbar for protection.
The suspect was searched and two walkie-talkies and some equipment rental keys were found on him. A cargo container was open and had been spray-painted.
Son bites dad
A 26-year-old Belfair man who bit his dad was in Superior Court July 9 arrested on a warrant and charged with felony assault.
He faces six years in prison and $11,000 in fines. Bail was $50,000.
Court records say Bremerton police arrived in the 1100 block of Callahan Drive Aug. 12, 2023 at 10:30 p.m. to a call about an intoxicated man fighting with his father and brother. The suspect bit the dad and punched the brother in the nose.
