An instructor at Washington Youth Challenge Academy in Bremerton was in Kitsap County Superior Court May 24 charged with third-degree rape of a cadet.
Court records say he confessed to police and apologized to school officials as he was being handcuffed. His job was to “oversee the safety and welfare of the cadets.” The facility is for troubled kids.
The 28-year-old Bremerton man faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Bail was $100,000.
Court records show Bremerton police responded to the 1200 block of Carver Street W. May 23 at about 12:19 p.m.
The cadet said the previous day the instructor showed him gay pornography on a website. The instructor asked him to pick a video he might like to watch. He refused, but then the boy said the instructor kept telling him to pull his pants down. He refused numerous times but finally did, and that’s when the sexual assault occurred.
The instructor admitted he is gay when being interviewed by police and said the cadet’s account of what happened was accurate.
