Evidence of text messages between a Kitsap County man and a Minnesota teenage girl led the Prosecutor’s Office to hand down felony charges in Kitsap County District Court .

Jason Scott Weatherhead, 29, of Bremerton, was charged April 2 with two counts of communication with a minor for immoral purposes. He was arrested April 1 and bond was set at $100,000.

Charging documents stated that on Sept. 26,  2011, Weatherford’s wife notified the Port Orchard Police Department concerning inappropriate text messages found on a cell phone.

She reported Weatherhead had been sending sexually graphic text messages to a 15-year-old girl in Marble, Minn.

Police photographed the text messages from the phone and contacted Marble police.

Marble police attempted to locate the girl, but name and numbers were an alias, stated court records.

Court documents stated that on Aug. 8,  2012, a Minnesota father contacted Port Orchard police regarding online sexual conversation with his 15-year-old daughter was having with Port Orchard man, who was later identified as Weatherhead.

Port Orchard police and Itasca County Sheriff’s Office  began working together to gather evidence.

Deputies discovered a 2011 report from Port Orchard police and found it was the same victim Weatherhead had continued to contact after his wife confronted him about the text messages.

Weatherhead moved from Port Orchard to Bremerton.

The Prosecutor’s Office determined jurisdiction of the case was in Itasca County.

The girls told investigators she and Weatherhead met on a gaming website, documents stated.

Court documents stated on Nov. 11, 2012, the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office contacted Bremerton police with more information regarding the case. The Sheriff’s Office served several warrants on social website and found the teenage girl was one of many juveniles Weatherford had contacted.

They found Weatherhead had been having sexually explicit conversations with about 70 females and males in several states — about 20 of them juveniles. Many of the juveniles reported they told Weatherhead they were children, but graphic conversation continued. There was also evidence of him engaging in sexual video chats with some juveniles, stated court documents.

Investigators reported they discovered Weatherhead had two profiles on Facebook and the girl also had two profiles.

If convicted, Weatherhead could serve up to five years in prison and/or $10,000 fine on each court.
