A 35-year-old Bremerton man was arrested under probable cause for rape of a child, first degree.
Bud Allen Ziegler was arrested on Monday after a child reported to a school counselor that his sister allegedly had been touched inappropriately by the man months ago.
The boy told the counselor the “boyfriend” no longer lived at the Highland Avenue address because of the Sept. 2013 incident, states the Bremerton Police Department report.
Allegedly Ziegler had tried to bribe the girl with toys as an attempt to get her not to tell, states the report. Multiple interviews by detectives, including one from the mother, detailed that Ziegler and his daughter stayed at the Bremerton residence for about a week because he was “having trouble living at home with his father,” states the report.
The mother also reported that two of her neighbors had been exposed to his genitals inside their apartments “without invitation from them.” Both neighbors told a BPD detective that Ziegler had done so and also tried to get them to touch him inappropriately, and that the “sexual advances” were not wanted.
Ziegler was brought into the station for questioning on March 3, and first told officers that he had stopped drinking because it “clouded his judgement” and caused him to make bad decisions.
After being questioned if he had inappropriately touched the 7-year-old child, Ziegler said he “was drunk most weekends, but he would remember doing something like that.”
He also stated he had a sexual relationship with one of the neighbors and the mother of the child, and asked why he would touch the child if he had access to the women instead. At least one of the women advised they did not have a sexual relationship with Ziegler.
After the questioning, the detective arrested Ziegler due to probable cause and was booked into county jail on a bail of $250,000.
