A Bremerton man was arrested for second-degree assault after pointing his gun at a group of pedestrians early Thursday morning.

The 57-year-old suspect parked his sport utility vehicle on Naval Avenue and approached a group of pedestrians walking eastbound on 11th Street just after midnight Thursday morning, asking them if they stole the case of Busch beer they were carrying, according to Bremerton police reports. After being rebuffed by the pedestrians, he walked within 20 feet of them and pointed a gun at a man in the group, a 22-year-old from Poulsbo. The Poulsbo man told the suspect they had a receipt for the beer purchase, but the suspect threatened to shoot.

The suspect did not put his finger on the trigger, but eventually got back in his vehicle and made a u-turn, traveling southbound on Naval Avenue.

Police found the suspect at his residence in the 100 block of Olympic Avenue and found the semi-automatic handgun he pointed at the pedestrians in the pocket of his leather jacket. Police transported the suspect to Kitsap County jail on suspicion of second-degree assault.
