Bremerton Police officers arrested people in connection with a counterfeit money ring. Some of the counterfeit money was allegedly used to buy Girl Scout cookies at local grocery stores, according to Bremerton Police, who estimate the group passed nearly $1,000 worth of counterfeit $20 bills.

Officers were dispatched to Rite Aid in the 4100 block of Kitsap Way in Bremerton Sunday afternoon to investigate an attempt to pass a counterfeit $20 bill. A store employee detected the counterfeit bill and told the male customer she needed to call police.

The man left in a car driven by an 18-year-old woman, but Rite Aid employees were able to copy the car’s license plate number and another customer followed the vehicle, according to Bremerton Police.

A man who lives in the 100 block of North Cambrian Avenue in Bremerton was listening to the police scanner and saw the suspect’s car in the alley behind his residence. He told police he saw the female driver put something in a garbage can. Police stopped the vehicle a short time later and arrested the woman. Bremerton Police later recovered a box from the garbage can that contained 12 counterfeit $20 bills.

An interview with the woman led to five other suspects and police eventually searched a residence in the 1100 block of 12th Street in Bremerton. A printer, printing supplies, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were seized at the 12th Street residence, according to Bremerton Police.

The 18-year-old woman and two men, ages 21 and 22, were arrested for forgery with bail set at $100,000. Bremerton Police are still searching for other suspects.
