UPDATE: Bremerton police apprehended Dale Kewayne Day at at approximately 4:30 a.m. Friday morning.
The Bremerton Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating and arresting a 46 year old man who was involved early Wednesday morning in eluding police and who is also wanted for felony warrants, firearms and stolen vehicle charges.
The suspect is identified as Dale Kewayne Day, a white male, 5’11”, 200 lbs., with a shaved head, and sleeve tattoos on both arms.Day’s last known address is in unincorporated Kitsap County.
A Bremerton officer attempted to stop a vehicle at approximately 12:45 a.m. Thursday morning near Kitsap Way and Adele Avenue for an equipment violation. The vehicle continued at a slow rate for a few blocks before stopping. The officer recognized the driver as Day and the vehicle sped away when the officer got out of his car. The officer was aware of Day having two felony warrants for his arrest, one from the Department of Corrections and the other a Kitsap County warrant for eluding police. Day is also known to carry firearms and to be violent, according to police.
The officer attempted to utilize a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) a few blocks later, to stop the pursuit as quickly as possible. The PIT stopped the suspect’s car momentarily, but the suspect was able to drive onto a sidewalk and continue fleeing. The suspect later drove north on Marine Drive, eventually striking a hedge at the end of the road and the driver then fled on foot.Officers recovered a loaded handgun from the driver seat area of the car and noted that the ignition area was damaged, indicating that the vehicle is likely stolen.
Officers set up a perimeter and attempted to locate the suspect while on foot for over two hours, receiving calls from residents who heard noises in back yards. Assistance was received from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol.The search was concluded around 5 a.m. without the suspect being located.
Bremerton Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Day, who should be considered dangerous. Members of the public are advised not to approach or to interact with the suspect. Those who see him or have information about his location should call 911
“We appreciate the public’s help in locating this person and we would like to get him in custody as soon as possible,” said Bremerton Police Chief Steve Strachan.
Day has two warrants from Kitsap County, one for eluding police and the other for drug violations, with a total bail of $125,000. He also has a no-bail warrant from the Dept. of Corrections for Escape from Community Custody.
