BREMERTON — The Bremerton Police Department is seeking information on a suspect in an assault that occurred Saturday about 2:15 p.m. A young couple was walking with their baby in a stroller in the area of 11th Street and Callow Avenue. They waited for the pedestrian light and as they crossed, a truck drove across the crosswalk and nearly struck the couple and the baby. There was a verbal interchange between the couple and the male driver of the truck, and the truck drove off.
The couple continued walking and as they neared their home a few blocks away, the truck returned and the driver got out and attacked the female. The suspect placed her in a “chokehold,” strangling her and repeatedly punching her in the face. The male jumped on the suspect’s back, but was thrown off. Two people driving by started honking their horns until the suspect stopped, got back in his truck and left.
The female victim was hospitalized, and had been strangled nearly to the point of unconsciousness. Officers did not locate the suspect of the truck, and a check of video from nearby businesses did not show the incident. The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s with a scruffy beard; short, greying hair; wearing a large tan-colored hat, a Carhartt-style tan jacket and blue jeans. He was driving what was described as an older silver or light blue Bronco or Blazer-type vehicle, with grayish primer paint on the driver’s side, and rust sport on the tailgate. The truck was last seen eastbound on 13th Street from Rainier Avenue.
Bremerton Police Detectives are asking for any information to help identify the suspect. Two photos of similar types of older Broncos or Blazers are attached for reference. Please call 360-473-5220 with any information.
