A 21-year-old Bremerton man who allegedly shot another man in an attempted car-jacking has been charged with first-degree assault, according to Kitsap County Superior Court documents.

Bremerton police detectives booked Theodore R. McPherson, also known as Theodore R. Bonaparte, into Kitsap County Jail Aug. 8. He remains in jail with bail set at $1 million.

McPherson and a 19-year-old woman met a 46-year-old man at a bar on National Avenue Aug. 2.

The pair later got a ride from the man and McPherson allegedly told him to drive up Dora Avenue. He directed the driver to stop, the woman got out of the vehicle, he jumped in the front seat and hit the man in the face.

McPherson then fired two shots in an attempt to steal the man’s belongings and car. One shot hit the man’s upper right leg and the second shattered the driver’s side window, according to court documents.

The bullet passed through the man’s leg, causing no major damage.

McPherson and the woman went to the Chieftain Motel on National Avenue and the man drove toward a pair of headlights, which happened to be a Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputy patrol vehicle.

The woman later turned herself into police and told Bremerton detectives she did not know McPherson planned to rob the man.

She said she and some friends took McPherson to Tukwila to be picked up by another friend, according to court documents. He was later arrested in Seattle.

The woman was arrested and booked into jail for first-degree rendering criminal assistance. She was later released.
