Bridge committee to take up photo tolling again

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) will meet on Nov. 3 to continue its review of photo-tolling options on the bridge.

Photo tolling, its advocates say, would make it faster and easier for drivers without a Good To Go transponder for electronic tolling to pay the Tacoma Narrows Bridge toll.

They could skip the toll booth and receive a bill in the mail.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) proposes adding this new tolling option in the spring of 2011 when Good To Go launches a new statewide customer service center.

The system would use cameras to automatically record license plates on vehicles without a transponder and bill registered owners for the toll.

The CAC is reviewing proposed rates, fees and payment methods for photo tolling.

The new option would affect neither the toll rate paid using a Good To Go transponder nor the cash-toll rate paid at a toll booth.

The CAC will reconvene on Nov. 3 to consider making a recommendation on photo-toll rates and fees to the Washington State Transportation Commission.
