NORTH KITSAP — Not even a year after the last string of residential burglaries gripped North Kitsap, another round begins.

Five residences — two located along Big Valley Road and another three between Vinland and Breidablik elementary schools — were broken into and burglarized between Oct. 23 and Oct. 29. The burglaries occurred in the daytime hours.

There is no suspect information regarding any of the burglaries at this time.

“It’s very traumatic,” said one victim, who asked to remain anonymous. “It’s an awful situation. It’s almost like someone is watching you.”

According to Kitsap County Sheriff deputy reports, the burglaries weren’t all similar. The burglars entered the homes through doors and windows and some houses, but not all, were ransacked.

Lee Ann Cari, whose home was burglarized Oct. 24, didn’t realize her home was broken into until hours after arriving home.

She opened her closet and noticed her jewelry lying on the floor with certain pieces missing. She said at first she thought it was the family cat.

“What was strange is that they closed things after they were done,” she said. “They took the time to shut the window behind them so when I came in the front door I didn’t notice right away.”

Cari said burglars selectively chose items to take.

“Nothing big was taken, it was mostly hand carry stuff,” she said, adding her daughter is heartbroken that her digital camera was taken. “She’s said just give me the memory stick back, you can have the camera. It was mostly sentimental stuff that was taken. Weird stuff too, like (her daughter’s) rack of beanies (hats).”

Valuable items stolen from the other homes included guns, flat-screen TVs, computer monitors, video game stations and alcohol.

In one of the residences, deputies discovered a black wallet that contained no identification. The wallet did not belong to the homeowners. According to the incident report, the wallet contained a Dairy Queen coupon for a free grilled chicken sandwich, a page ripped out of a pornographic magazine containing phone numbers to adult-oriented phone services and a photo of a teenage girl sticking her tongue out.

The photo was copied and taken to schools in the North End for possible identification.

The North End continues to see its share of burglaries after a string that started last winter and targeted homes throughout the county. More recently burglars targeted five other county residences between August and October. These homes were burglarized while the residents were attending funerals.
