A person cut through fencing to gain access to the Puget Sound Energy substation on Northlake Way June 17 and cut and stole a large amount of copper wire. An employee told a sheriff deputy that cutting the copper wire could have easily killed the suspect.
The deputy arrived on scene at about 7:25 p.m. after the substation had been experiencing low-voltage issues earlier in the day. About 25 feet of ground cable and 30 feet of neutral wire were cut and stolen, valued at about $200. The estimated cost to repair the fence that was cut to gain entry on the premise is about $400.
Two large bolt cutters were located in the southeast corner of the facility and were placed into evidence. None of the locked buildings were entered. There is no suspect information.
