Tim Eyman to speak at CK Republican event:

The Central Kitsap Republican Women’s annual May luncheon will feature Tim Eyman and a speaker on Islam and terrorism.

The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12 at The Sons of Norway Hall, 1018 18th St., Bremerton. RSVP by May 5 at (360) 479-5571, cost is $25. Kaj Ahlburg’s speech is called “Al Qaeda, Islam & Islamic Terrorism” and Eyman, known for his anti-tax initiatives, will give a “state of the state” speech.

MOAA Armed Forces Day Meeting:

The Kitsap Chapter of the Military Officer’s Association of America will hold its Armed Forces Day Luncheon on Tuesday, May 17 at the Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Road NE, Bremerton.   A social hour will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by luncheon at noon with the program to follow. Preservation fair at Puget Sound Navy Museum:

Puget Sound Navy Museum will host a Do-it-Yourself Preservation Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Independent conservator Alice Bear will talk about how residents can preserve and safeguard their treasures such as family heirlooms and mementos. Collect samples of museum-quality storage material and learn useful tips on how to protect the family’s collection. Visitors are welcome to bring small items in for advice from Bear and Kathrine Young, the museum’s collections manager. The museum is located at 251 First Street, Bremerton. USS Springer presentation at Naval Undersea Museum:

The Distinguished Speaker Series continues at the Naval Undersea Museum with Don Ulmer who will give a presentation at 2 p.m. Saturday in the museum’s auditorium. He will discuss and show video footage of USS Springer, which rescued eight downed B-29 airmen from the sea during World War II. Several of his books will be for sale and there will be book signings and refreshments to follow the presentation. The museum is located at 1 Garnett Way, Keyport. Senior lunch in East Bremerton:

Chuckwagon Senior Nutrition Program invites those age 60 and older to a Mother’s Day lunch at noon Wednesday, May 4 at the Pinewood Manor Apartments, 280 Sylvan Way in East Bremerton. The menu will include fruit salad, Parmesan chicken, noodles, peas, whole wheat roll and strawberry shortcake with whipped topping. Learn how to raise hogs:

The Washington State University Kitsap Extension will offer Hogs 101, a class for both beginning and experienced farmers on raising hogs on pastures from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Possum Run Farm, 9931 Bethel Burley Road SE, Port Orchard. The class will cover topics including pig selection, feeding and managing feeder hogs, marketing farm-raised pork and farming systems. The cost is $35 per person or $50 per family. Video competition for Kitsap students:

“From Land to Sea” — the Adventuress Video Project challenges children, teachers and parents in Peninsula schools and youth groups to create a short video that answers the question, “Why do YOU want to sail on Adventuress?” The winning class or group will receive a three-hour Sound Studies sail for up to 45 students in mid-June from Port Angeles or Port Townsend. The contest is open to students in grades 3-12 with their teachers or parents, and videos must be two minutes or less in length. DVDs can be sent to Sound Experience, P.O. Kitsap Audubon Society meeting:

The Kitsap Audubon Society will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. May 12 at the lower level of the Poulsbo library. The evening’s program includes “The Lives of Crows” presented by licensed wildlife rehabilitator Elena Fox. She will discuss topics including their history and how they interact with humans. Moms, brides and babies event in Silverdale:

More than 60 vendors will be at moms, brides and babies, a Kingston Girl event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Silverdale Community Center. There will be food, gifts, crafts and raffles. Admission is free. The center is located at 8729 Silverdale Way NW.

Bremerton fundraiser to benefit Red Cross efforts in Japan:

A fundraiser to benefit American Red Cross relief efforts in Japan will be hosted by Cascades of Bremerton, a continuing care retirement campus at 3201 Pine Road in Bremerton, on Saturday. The event will include entertainment, a silent auction from noon to 2:30 p.m and a Japanese cuisine buffet. A suggested donation for the buffet is $15. RSVP at (360) 479-8522 as seating is limited.

Leadership and Supervision Certificate Program at OC:

Beginning summer quarter 2011, Olympic College will offer a Leadership and Supervision Certificate Program. Those looking to change careers, enhance employment standing or strengthen their job marketability are encouraged to enroll in the program. It is designed to build an understanding of leadership theory and practice. All courses for the program will be taught online and can be completed in less than three quarters. Volunteers needed with Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group:

The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group seeks volunteers for several upcoming projects. Volunteers are needed to assist with the installation, removal and monitoring of smolt traps daily through June 7. On May 17, the group will need help with community events and classroom workshops. Other areas of assistance include office-work, selling produce at the Belfair Farmers Market and equipment operators.
