TAX PREPARATION: Tax counseling requires classroom training, to be presented in early January and the successful completion of the IRS certification open book exam. There will be several Tax-Aide sites throughout the county to assist taxpayers from Feb. 1 to April 15. Volunteers are assigned to a site under the leadership of a local coordinator who also provides support for the unexpected questions that arise. The sites are open approximately eight hours each week. The tax-aides enter the taxpayers’ data on IRS supplied computers and the installed software performs all the required calculations. Tax-aide volunteers should be familiar with elementary computer data entry operations.
