CPR CLASSES: The American Red Cross serving King and Kitsap counties is sponsoring a free “CPR Saturday for Teens” at Kitsap Mall in Silverdale. “CPR Saturday for Teens” is geared toward students ages 12 to 18. Classes will be held throughout the day and upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive their CPR certification. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. CAT SHOW: The 4-H cat show will from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the President’s Hall at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. There will be a raffle, silent auction, breakfast and lunch will be available for sale.

PROA: The Puget Rental Owner’s Association monthly dinner meeting seminar will be at AA China Buffet, 3583 Wheaton Way in East Bremerton. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. Kitsap County Assessor Jim Avery will be the featured speaker. The 2008 officers and directors will also be sworn in. STROKE SCREENING: Life Line Screening will be at the Elks Lodge No. 1181 at 4131 Pine Road in Bremerton. Appointments will begin at 9 a.m. Register for a Wellness Package with Heart Rhythm for $149. All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete.

DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE: The 14th annual Bremerton Parks and Recreation Daddy Daughter Dance will be from 7-10 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Bremerton Sons of Norway Hall. Tickets are $15 per couple and $9 for each additional daughter. Tickets include a wrist corsage for daughters, light refreshments and door prizes. LUPUS SUPPORT: The Kitsap Lupus Support group will meet from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Harrison Medical Center. The meeting will be held in the conference room on the first floor. Family and friends are welcome.

NAVY LEAGUE: The monthly luncheon for the Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Navy League will be at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 12 in the Bangor Plaza (formerly called the Trident Ballroom, CMO) Naval Base Kitsap – Bangor. Retired Navy Capt. Will Lent will be speaking on the “Battle of Leyte Gulf”, which is considered the most extensive sea battle in history. This was a real turning point of WWII in the Pacific.

CHADD: “Communication & AD/HD” will be presented by Bruce Weaber, MA, marriage and family therapist at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 to the Kitsap Branch of CHADD, the local AD/HD (Attention Deficit Disorder) support group. Discussion will follow, and all are welcome. There is no charge and no pre-sign up needed.

KITSAP QUILTERS: Kitsap Quilters will host “It’s Rainin’ Quilts” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 15 and Feb. 16 at President’s Hall at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. MOAA: The Kitsap Chapter of the Military Officer’s Association of America will hold its monthly meeting at 11 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Elks Lodge, 4131 Pine Road NE, Bremerton.

Guest speaker at the meeting will be CDR Michael Greenwalt, senior chaplain at the Bremerton Naval Hospital. He will recount his experiences as a chaplain in Iraq, and dealing with stress at the hospital.

Membership in MOAA is open to those who hold, or have ever held, a commission or warrant in any component of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Public Health Service, NOAA, or their surviving spouses. TAX PREPARATION: Tax counseling requires classroom training, to be presented in early January and the successful completion of the IRS certification open book exam. There will be several Tax-Aide sites throughout the county to assist taxpayers from Feb. 1 to April 15. Volunteers are assigned to a site under the leadership of a local coordinator who also provides support for the unexpected questions that arise. The sites are open approximately eight hours each week. The tax-aides enter the taxpayers’ data on IRS supplied computers and the installed software performs all the required calculations. Tax-aide volunteers should be familiar with elementary computer data entry operations.
