FLOTSAM AND JETSAM: Hansville’s Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club will host its annual garden sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 8, at the Greater Hansville Community Center at Buck Lake County Park. POULSBO HISTORIC SOCIETY: The Poulsbo Historical Society will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, lower level of the Sons of Norway Hall. Discussion will include the plans for establishing a museum in the new City Hall. All members are encouraged to attend.

MEET YOUR COMMISSIONERS: Kitsap Conservation Voters will host its annual Meet Your Kitsap County Commissioners Forum from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at the Island Lake Community Center in Silverdale. The forum is free and open to the public. This is an opportunity to question your Kitsap County commissioners about their actions, policies and future plans on key environmental issues. In addition to questions from the audience, there will be questions about the new North Kitsap Legacy Partnership, legacy lots, farmland, preventing rural sprawl, and preserving the rural character of Kitsap County. Jaye Moore, of the Northwest Raptor Center, will bring live birds of prey — a swainson’s Hawk, Western screech owl and a Barred Owl. A TIME TO GATHER: The Suquamish Foundation will host “A Time To Gather” at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 14, at the House of Awakened Culture, located at 7235 NE Parkway in Suquamish. The evening will feature performances by world-renowned Navajo flautist R. Carlos Nakai and Slack key guitarist Keola Beamer. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served from 5:30-7 p.m., and performances will begin at 7 p.m. There will be a free shuttle from the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal to the House of Awakened Culutre. REMEDIAL YARD CLASS: Poulsbo Parks and Recreation is offering a gardening class starting Wednesday, May 19. Participants will meet on Monday and Wednesdays from 6-8:30 P.M. and you will visit each student’s yard together for a consultation. Learn from each other’s situation as well as the instructor’s knowledge and experience. Course fee is $38 and will meet for three or more weeks depending on the number of students registered. NATIONAL TRAILS DAY: On Saturday, June 5, the Poulsbo Trails Committee will be celebrating National Trails Day at the gazebo in Liberty Bay Waterfront Park. Join the Kitsap Volkssporters on their bimonthly walk. Choose between a 5 k (3.1 mile) route and a 10 k (6.2 mile) route. The 5K will go to American Legion Park, the boardwalk and Fjord Drive. The 10K walk will have a southern/eastern loop and then go through Fish Park, Nels Park and American Legion Park. The walk is free, but all walkers must register at the Kvelstad Gazebo in Liberty Bay Waterfront Park. Registration is at 9 a.m. the walk begins at 9:30 am. Maps and directions will be provided. SEEKING DOCENTS: The Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport is currently recruiting for the Youth Docent Volunteer Program. The program offers young people work experience in a museum. Volunteers work five hours a day three days a week during the busy summer months as well as a few hours monthly during the winter months. Work begins as soon as school is out in the spring. Teens must be between the ages of 13-17 to participate. Youth Docents serve as educational aides and curatorial assistants. They will research, design and build an exhibit. SEEKING VOLUNTEERS: The Nature Conservancy is looking for volunteer stewards to help monitor Foulweather Bluff preserve, a nature preserve in northern Kitsap County near Hansville.
