PORT ORCHARD — Candidates for the board of a proposed Kingston park district, along with a host of key county positions, must file with the Kitsap County Auditor’s office next week. The filing period begins at 8 a.m. June 7 and ends at 5 p.m. June 11. Filings were received by mail beginning May 21.
A primary will be held Aug. 17, followed by a Nov. 2 general election. The August primary will be used to elect a five-member board that would oversee a proposed metropolitan park district for Kingston’s Village Green. The district would pay for operations of a planned community center building. A proposition to create the district will also be decided on Aug. 17. If the proposition fails, the park board election will be voided.
Several county positions will be decided in November, including the County Commissioner District 3 position, assessor, auditor, clerk, coroner, prosecuting attorney, sheriff and treasurer.
At the state level, Rep. Sherry Appleton (D-Poulsbo) and Rep. Christine Rolfes (D-Bainbridge Island) of the 23rd Legislative District are up for reelection.
On the national stage, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray and U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island) are up for reelection.
